ARCO MADRID 2013 Contemporary Art Fair from 13 to 17 February 2013
ARCO madrid an international art fair that highlights the importance of the art market players. Artists, dealers, museum directors and art collections with critics and historians as well as prestigious professionals, intellectuals, artists, philosophers and foundations gathered in Madrid to participate in panel discussions and interesting encounters.
The participating galleries rated the quality of the international collectors and guests among the best aspects of ARCO Madrid during the two days, 13 and 14 February, when there were around 24,800 visitors. Similarly, despite the uncertainty caused by the country’s economic situation, gallerists were optimistic about the results of these two key days for their sales. Around 250 guest collectors, 150 art professionals, members of acquisitions boards, museum directors and curators were guests of the Fair and took part in the Forum, the Professional Meetings and other activities offered by the organization, which both they and the participating galleries have valued very favorably.
Financially, this year has exceeded expectations with British newspapers giving special importance to the satisfaction of the galleries with their sales, to Spanish collectors too; for example, Edward Nahem, of the Edward Tyler Nahem Fine Art Gallery, L.L.C., New York, the Lelong Gallery, Paris, the Casa Triángulo, Sao Paolo, and others. Although the fair for some was a success, I found the art collection failed to reflect contemporary society with its economic problems.
